After the success of Universal Horror Nights 2020, Pixeldust was engaged for another frightfully exciting VFX job for Universal Horror Nights 2022. This project presented several challenges including a completely digital face replacement for live actors and complex environment enhancements.
Creative Direction: Ricardo Andrade in collaboration with Paintbox Labs
CG/VFX Supervisor: Samar Shool
Senior Animator: Andy Hencken
Senior Producer: Emily Vitek
BRINGING DEATH TO LIFE
For a sequence featuring a horrifying grim reaper, Pixeldust was tasked with adding eyes that would bring life to this herald of death. With careful video tracking and attention to detail, the VFX team added a pair of menacing glowing eyes, complete with reflections around the eye, as well as an ominous fogginess around their centers.
AUGMENTING A FACE OF FEAR
In this scene where an actor is portraying the terror of having his soul sucked out of his body, Pixeldust was asked to enhance his performance with a zombie-like skin decay effect. The team seamlessly merged his face with a 3D model of a zombie head over time to greatly augment the fear factor of this shot.
THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS
Pixeldust helped to create a terrifying environment for this selfie queen’s encounter with an entourage of tormentors. The VFX team added several realistic effects including cracking mirrors, blood dripping down the walls, and a ghastly overflowing sink full of bubbling blood!!
